This event will demonstrate that Yorkshire has quality businesses, universities and innovative ideas to offer China, particularly in the sustainability, environmental and new energy sectors at the seminar programme prior to the Guildhall dinner, which will be opened by The Rt Hon John Prescott MP, former Deputy Prime Minister. Speakers will include John Lloyd, CEO of UK Coal, Professor Li Shirong Deputy Director, Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Commission, Jan-Peter Onstwedder, Project Director, London Accord, Noel Waters, Manager of Smith & Nephew, Shanghai and senior government officers from both countries, including Malcolm Wicks MP, Minister of State for Energy.

The seminar programme will be followed by a networking drinks reception at 18.30, followed by a dinner in the Guildhall at 7 pm. Speakers at the dinner include Mr Zhang Lirong, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and The Rt Hon Rosie Winterton, MP, Minister for Yorkshire and Minister for Transport. The Keynote speech will be made by The Rt Hon John Prescott MP, former Deputy Prime Minister who will also present the Yorkshire Society Lifetime Achievement Awards which are sponsored by Emirates Airline in conjunction with the Loong Palace Five Star Deluxe Hotel in Beijing and Olympus UK.
The cost of a table is £1,850 for 10 places, which includes seminar, champagne reception, dinner and wine (or individual places can be booked for £195 each). Seminar places are limited and will be allocated on a first come basis and can be reserved when you book online.
The Guildhall seminar and dinner are the first steps in building long term relationships between Yorkshire and Chinese businesses in order to develop mutual trade opportunities. In the spring 2009, a major event will be held in Yorkshire to showcase its expertise to visiting Chinese delegations. This event will include on-site visits to businesses interested in demonstrating quality manufacturing, cities which have benefited from clean air and clean water initiatives, universities with research and development facilities and the Academy for Sustainable Communities in Leeds. Yorkshire Tourist Board will be involved in planning cultural visits.
